When a woman wakes up, a random dog is in her bed
Julie Thornton Johnson woke up to an unforgettable surprise earlier this week: a massive, sleepy dog, one she had never seen before, snuggled up in bed with her and her husband.

Startled by the unexpected guest, her husband broke the silence with a simple question: “Julie, whose dog is this?” As she rolled over and took in the sight of the relaxed canine, Julie was equally baffled. “That’s not our dog,” she responded, as the couple stared at the intruder in disbelief.

Despite the surprise, the dog appeared completely at ease.
“She was just lying on our pillows, totally content,” Julie said. “All she wanted was to snuggle.”
Once the initial shock subsided, Julie, a dog lover, instinctively reached out to comfort the furry visitor, gently rubbing her back while trying to figure out how she had ended up in their home. The mystery unraveled quickly: after a powerful storm swept through the area the previous night, the dog must have gotten lost and sought shelter. The Johnsons realized they had inadvertently left their back door open, allowing the clever dog to find her way inside.

“Dogs are so smart,” Julie remarked. “She saw an open door and came in.”
Believing the dog had a family somewhere searching for her, Julie snapped a few photos and posted them on social media, hoping the rightful owner would recognize their missing pet. Before long, Julie received a call from the dog’s relieved owner, who lived several miles away.

The dog, named Nala, had gone missing the day before during a walk. Disoriented by the storm, Nala had wandered far from home and found comfort and safety with the Johnsons.
“We were a safe place, and she knew it,” Julie said.

Soon, Nala’s grateful owners arrived for a joyful reunion. Both parties were relieved—Nala’s family was thrilled to have her back, and the Johnsons were happy to have been part of her adventure.
“They were worried we’d be upset about their dog sneaking into our home, but it was the opposite,” Julie said. “Everyone was safe, and nobody had to weather the storm alone. It was a heartwarming experience that brought strangers together in the sweetest way.”

For the Johnsons, this chance encounter was a gentle reminder of how small acts of kindness can have a big impact.
